Hop aboard and sail past towering icebergs made from ancient, densely-packed ice. Listen as they flounder, calve and roll right before your very eyes. Every Iceberg is unique, calving off glaciers into pinnacle, wedge and tabular shapes. Our favourite “bergs” are the talk of the world. You may even get to sample a bergy bit—the most pristine water on earth, frozen 10,000 years ago.
Iceberg Facts
- Most of the icebergs that make there way to the waters of Newfoundland and Labrador break off the glaciers in western Greenland.
- These glacial giants can be 10-15,000 years old with only 10% appearing above the ocean’s surface.
- Approximately 10,000 icebergs break off each year, however only 400-800 make it to the waters off Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Icebergs come in all shapes and sizes including: tinnacle, tabular, blocky, Dry dock, dome and wedge.
