Doug Wheeler was a Provincial civil servant known to many as “Mr. Tourism”. This award commemorates his efforts to promote Newfoundland and Labrador as a tourism destination, and the high standards he employed while doing so. Mr. Wheeler passed away in 1981 while still an employee of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
This award is sponsored by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and is given to the person or group who has done the most in the past year to develop or promote the tourism industry in this province. It may also be awarded to recognize longstanding service in the industry. The award is presented annually during the Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador Convention.
We were thrilled to accept this wonderful award from the Department of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development during the annual Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador Conference and Trade Show in Gander on February 25th, 2015.
